Last year it was reported that Jonathan Ross was so eager to bring Ru Paul’s Drag Race to the UK he had bought the rights to develop a new version of the drag-themed reality show according to Attitude magazine.

It is also rumoured he is lining up British drag star Jodie Harsh to present it as he has today confirmed he does not wish to present it himself.

Now sources say a deal has been signed which would see a 14-week series air in the Autumn, with the new format featuring a rumored line-up of judges: Rupaul, Michelle Visage, Jodie Harsh and UK Drag Legend Paul O’Grady according to the RuPaul’s Drag Race Family Facebook page.

Ross told Attitude today that despite online speculation he is still actively “knocking on doors” to find a home for the show and is in the process of talking to three channels. He added “What I wanted to say was one: that there’s nothing happening right now, and two: I’m still working on it and talking about it!

“I am not in any way trying to inject myself into the format. If we were to do it, my first desire would be to do it with Ru, who seems up for it. If Ru couldn’t do it for whatever reason, we would probably find a UK face to do it, but it wouldn’t be me.Post regarding Jonathan Ross's announcement regarding the premiere of UK version of Ru Paul's Drag Race

“I am very happy and keen to get something off the ground, so if me being involved in some way will help, then I will happily oblige, but I think I would be completely wrong to host it.

“I could see myself being on it as a guest judge and would happily do anything like that. But this isn’t me trying to say ‘I want to do Drag Race‘. I would love Michelle to be involved as well, and hopefully with her her doing so well on Celebrity Big Brother, it can’t hurt”.

Michelle Visage, a regular judge on Ru Paul’s Drag Race in the states, is certainly charming UK audiences in this years Celebrity Big Brother with her no nonsense style and witty sense of humour. As a result she is already becoming a firm favourite to win the show. Bookies have her odds at just 5/2 now, putting ahead of loudmouth Katie Hopkins at 3/1 and former favourite Keith “Cheggers” Chegwin at 9/2.

Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge said: “Michelle’s the third favourite we’ve had in as many days, but her no-nonsense attitude has really struck a chord with punters and they’ve backed her off the boards.”

Michelle’s popularity would certainly pave the way for a UK Drag Race and contestants do tend to hang around Channel 5 following their win.

RuPaul has already thrown his support behind a UK version of the show, telling fellow judge Visage last year: “Let’s do it! I’m ready for it”
